Alaska Airlines Not Among Carriers Banning Hunting Trophies

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Seattle-based Alaska Airlines is not joining an expanding list of carriers who ban or limit transportation of hunting trophies.

The Juneau Empire reports Delta, United and American airlines announced their new trophy rules on Monday, over a month after Zimbabwe's Cecil the lion was killed by an American dentist.

Alaska Airlines spokesman Bobbie Egan says the company's current policy works well for its customers.

Most of the animals that carriers say they won't transport are not among Alaska's most popular big game, like caribou and moose.

Alaska Big Game Commercial Services Board chair Kelly Vrem called the restrictions ``grandstanding,'' noting that most trophies are shipped to hunters' homes or transported by freight companies.
