CLARENDON, Vt. (AP) — A public health veterinarian is warning Vermonters to make sure their domestic animals are vaccinated against rabies after a rabid bobcat was shot in the town of Clarendon.

Veterinarian Bob Johnson says the bobcat shot last Saturday was the fourth bobcat found to have rabies in the state since 2007.

The Rutland Herald is reporting that Clarendon resident Steven Pomerleau shot the bobcat on Saturday out of concern for the safety of local children playing outside near his home on Cold River Road.

Game Warden Dana Joyal says the female bobcat appeared as if it had been healthy, weighing 20-25 pounds.

Pomerleau says the bobcat attacked a cat belonging to him and several neighbors.
