An investigation is underway after a British cyclist was shot and killed by a hunter while riding on a trail in the French Alps, officials say.
Marc Sutton, 34, was riding his bike on a trail about 6 p.m. when he passed a group of about 18 hunters. Officials say he was shot and killed by a 22-year-old hunter, who was not identified and later was taken to a hospital to be treated for shock.
The shooting occurred near Montriond, Thonon-Les-Bains, according to prosecutor Philippe Toccanier. Officials say Sutton was wearing a colored helmet and riding a colored bike.
Toccanier said the hunter was under investigation of "aggravated manslaughter." Officials believe the shooting was an accident, but Toccanier told SkyNews Sutton "Couldn't be confused with game, as he had a coloured helmet and a coloured mountain bike."
