Video: The Hunting Side of Champion Golfer Brian Harman

2023 Open Championship winner Brian Harman is an avid bowhunter and angler, and he doesn’t shy away from answering questions about his passions away from the golf course.

American Brian Harman (36) recently won the 151st Open Championship (aka British Open) at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in the seaside town of Hoylake, England. In addition to being named “Champion Golfer of the Year,” and getting to keep the Claret Jug (above left) for a year, Harman took home a check for $3,000,000. Harman finished with a 4-day total of minus 13, giving him a dominant victory by six strokes.

The reason I’m covering this sporting event on Grand View Outdoors is like recent U.S. Open Champion, Wyndham Clark, Harman is an avid outdoorsman. (Click here for my story about Clark.)

In the YouTube video below, fast-forward to the 2:16 mark to hear Harman answer a question on whether he intends to buy himself a hunting trip with the big check he earned for winning the The Open. His answer may not surprise you, but it certainly did the reporter. It’s not every day you hear a winner of one of golf’s four majors talk about food plot maintenance during his winner’s press conference! At the 3:56 mark, he even answers (sort of) the “how much” price question with serious husband skill.

At 11:20, a reporter (the same one who asked the tractor questions) again brings up hunting, and this time Harman is careful to explain he’s not pursuing rare (read, endangered) species. The reporter follows up this inquiry with more questions specific to bowhunting, and Harman provides details regarding shot distance (targets vs. animals). Kudos to Harman for proudly representing all hunters to the media and golf fans around the world.

Note: I laughed out loud when the press conference video concludes (18:10) where the same reporter quickly approaches the stage to have Harman repeat the name of his new Kubota tractor, and asks for the spelling. Funny!

To watch Brian Harman and his brother Scott shoot their bows, check out the “Brian Harman Goes Hunting” YouTube video below from the PGA Tour. At the time (10 years ago), Brian’s parents lived in the house. They have since moved out and he now lives there with his family. (Click here for a well-written story by Golf Digest with several quotes from Brian on why he loves to hunt.)
