SHOT Show 2020: 10 Great Gear Items for Whitetail Hunters

In the latter part of January, The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) held the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show 2020) at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the four-day show, more than 55,000 industry professionals waded through 690,000 square feet of floor space filled with over 2,500 exhibitor booths. Tracking down and viewing every product is NOT virtually impossible; it’s impossible!

As I waded through the bustling walkways packed with thousands of hunting enthusiasts, searching for the perfect products for whitetail hunters, I was able to put together this list of 10 that piqued my interest. Here they are in alphabetical order.

ALPS Outdoorz Pursuit Bow Pack

If you are looking for a perfectly sized pack for stand hunting whitetails, take a closer look at the ALPS Outdoorz Pursuit Bow Pack. Its 2700 cubic inches is ample enough to carry all of the gear needed to hunt all day and with a little luck field-dress that big buck. Key features of the Pursuit include an organizational shelf pocket to keep gear item at the ready, hydration pocket and port to stay hydrated on stand and a quiver holder on each side of the pack to remove and stash your quiver for a more balanced shot. Additionally, the Pursuit includes a drop-down pocket to carry a bow or rifle and hangs easily from a tree with its built-in D-ring clip.

From ALPS:

“The Pursuit Bow Pack is perfect for keeping your bow secure and stowed away when you’re trekking through the fields and rugged terrain. The lashing straps, along with the expandable bow pocket, make a great combination to securely keep your bow in place. Having a pack that will hold your bow is nice so you can keep your hands free. There is a large main pocket, large front pocket, and lower side mesh pockets to keep your gear organized. The waist belt is padded, so when you’re carrying a little bit of extra weight, the comfort level is still going to be top of the line. A blaze orange rain cover is included in case you are in the great outdoors when some rain rolls through. The Pursuit is available in Realtree and Mossy Oak.”

Butler Creek Featherlight Sling

Hunters will appreciate the Featherlight’s breathable construction and lightweight. Constructed of closed-cell foam — with evenly spaced cut-outs — the Featherlight sling reduces trapped heat better than competitive models. The Featherlight’s closed-cell foam also provides superior gripping ability, allowing it to adhere to today’s synthetic clothing. For added security when navigating rough terrain, the Featherlight sling features a thumb loop attached to the bottom of the sling. Additional features include two built-in cartridge holders providing immediate access to extra ammo for a follow-up shot. The sling is adjustable from 22 to 36-inches, making it perfect for whitetail hunters everywhere.

From Butler Creek:

“Butler Creek is excited to announce the lightest rifle sling ever produced by the company with the introduction of the Butler Creek Featherlight sling. Designed to be 45 percent lighter than any other model offered by the company, the new Featherlight sling features an industry-first design with the use of a closed-cell foam inner material. The new Featherlight sling is as comfortable as it is durable, resulting in a true multi-purpose sling perfectly suited for long days in the field. Whether used on a bolt-action, shotgun or modern sporting rifles, the Featherlight sling is easily added to any firearm through the use of optional swivels or a conventional strap.”

Mantis X8

For you bowhunters, check out this device to make you become a more proficient shooter. The Mantis X8 tracks your bow’s movement from draw through the shot, and then provides longitudinal data for analysis. Downstream, archers can analyze tracked data, like bow stability, bow cant and shot timing, fine-tuning their shot processes with the outcome of becoming the most proficient shot possible. The X8 device works in unison with an app — available for both Apple and Android phones — connected via Bluetooth 4.0.

From Mantis:

“The Mantis X8 is an unparalleled piece of technology that will change the way you shoot.

It streams the data via Bluetooth to an app on your smartphone or tablet that gives you real-time feedback on your shooting mechanics. The X8 comes with a universal adapter included in the box. You may consider ordering extras if you want to use on multiple bows.”
