Jeff Simpson musky

In my opinion, when it comes to freshwater fishing, there’s nothing more exciting than having a big musky attack a topwater lure near the boat. Oftentimes when this occurs, the musky tips off its presence by bulging the water as it follows closely behind the lure, and it’s very common for the angler to set the hook a split-second too soon in anticipation of the strike, missing the fish.

But that’s not what happens in the 4-minute Facebook video below. Jeff Simpson and Jeremy Smith from Lindner’s Angling Edge were filming on Lac Seul in Ontario's Sunset Country, and as you’ll see, Jeff encounters a musky that is hot! The big fish attacks Jeff’s walk-the-dog-style topwater lure right at the boat, but it misses it. The slow-mo replay proves that Jeff somehow kept his composure and didn’t pull the lure away from the fish.

The musky misses the surface lure a second time on a follow-up cast, away from the boat, then finally eats it on yet another cast. Crazy!
