Police Investigating Dead Deer Left In School's Parking Lot

TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. (AP) — Police are trying to determine who left a dead dear with a cryptic note attached to it in the parking lot of a school in the Finger Lakes region.

Local media report that the discovery Wednesday morning prompted officials to place the Trumansburg school in a ``lockout,'' although administrators say they don't believe there was any threat to students or staff.

Trumansburg school district Superintendent Michael McGuire said a paper note attached to the deer carcass read ``In God we trust. This is just the beginning.''

The carcass was found by the district's director of facilities before school opened. Police say the deer appeared to have been hit by a car.

Police say they don't know yet whether the note and dead deer were meant to be a prank or malicious.
