HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Hunting advocates say they'll push again for a bill that would allow Sunday deer hunting with a bow and arrow on certain private property.
In an email to supporters, Robert Crook, executive director of the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen, blamed Senate President Donald Williams Jr. for blocking the bill from coming up for a vote in the Senate before the May 7 midnight deadline.
Crook is more hopeful for its chances next year because Williams is retiring.
The bill that failed applied to land in overpopulated deer management zones, as determined by state environmental officials.
Williams acknowledged he's “never been a fan” of the bill. If it moves forward next year, he said he hopes there's an option for local officials to decide whether they want it allowed.
