Yankton Bids For International Archery Tournament

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Yankton is submitting a bid to host an international archery competition that includes hundreds of participants and is viewed by almost 1 billion people on television.

More than 60 countries will send archers to the 2015 Youth World Championships. The Daily Press & Dakotan reports the city, Yankton County and the state have collaborated with the National Field Archery Association on the bid.

Association President Bruce Cull says it's the largest youth archery event in the world. The last time it was held in the United States was in 2009 near Salt Lake City. Since then, it's been held in Poland and China.

World Archery Federation officials have scouted Yankton and Cull thinks the city has a "reasonably good shot." He expects a response within a couple of weeks.
