Mathews Archery Show Update

Mathews' Mike Bundy (r) went over the new Z7 Xtreme Tactical with Mike Crawford, from Griswold Archery pro shop in Galesburg, Illinois, at the 2011 Mathews Retailer Business Show in Wisconsin Dells.

The event was at the posh Chula Vista Resort in touristy though chilly Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Monday through Wednesday. Mathews and dozens of its licensees—manufacturers of hunting and archery accessories of all kinds, many sporting Mathews' proprietary Lost Camo--put on exhibits and demonstrations for Mathews dealers, reps and the media. An impressive lineup of experts put on seminars on topics ranging from bow tuning to guerilla retailing. There were shooting competitions.

Attendees enjoyed meals and events, including well-reviewed entertainment by guitarist Mike Rayburn, and many partook of the resorts amenities, like the spa and indoor water park.

"It was like a mini-vacation for me and my wife Rebecca," said Mike Crawford, tech from Mathews dealer Griswold Archery in Galesburg, Illinois. "It was my first Mathews show, and I was very impressed with the setup, very impressed with how the Mathews company organizes things and treats people. I have been in the business since 1975, have been to several purchasing type shows, and will say the Mathews workers are the friendliest and best at what they do."

Crawford's main "mission" was to check out the new bows.

"I was really impressed with the Mission brand lineup, and admire Mathews for donating the profits from that," he said. "I shot all the bows, and am buying an EZ7 for myself." It will be the third Mathews in Crawford's arsenal.

"The 2011 Mathews Retailer Business Show keeps getting bigger and better every year and 2011 was no exception. Nearly 350 Authorized Mathews Retailers and over 100 of the finest Lost Camo licensee's gathered to make this show a success and for that I am so thankful. The Licensee Program is very near and dear to my heart. Not only do Lost Camo Licensed Products give the Authorized Mathews Retailer a unique and exclusive product that in turn helps make them a healthier independent retailer, but 100% of the proceeds… not the "majority", or "most of" but 100% of the Lost Camo profits go towards helping people less fortunate around the world. This is in addition to the funding Mathews and Mission has done for years." -Matt McPherson
