Officers find suspect in famed Utah buck's death

NORTH LOGAN, Utah (AP) — State wildlife officers say they've found the person accused of killing a well-known trophy buck in North Logan city limits.

Conservation officer Christopher Schulze says wildlife officials seized the 29-inch-wide antlers from the suspect, who now faces misdemeanor charges of shooting within city limits and unlawful taking of wildlife while trespassing.

The animal, known to locals as The Greenville Buck, was often seen wandering the city and sleeping in residents' backyards.

Schulze tells The Salt Lake Tribune officers were tipped off after someone brought the buck's head into Al's Sporting Goods store a few days after the opening weekend of an archery hunt.

Investigators believe the hunter shot the deer with a bow and arrow Aug. 18 while trespassing.

Schulze says local residents have been tremendously concerned about the case.
