Minnesota Hunter Steals Other Hunter's Deer

ST. ROSA, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a Minnesota hunter with no luck of his own was caught stealing a buck shot by another hunter.

Stearns County Chief Deputy Bruce Bechtold says the theft was reported by a group of hunters who had several deer carcasses hanging in the tree.

According to the sheriff's office, the man, from Rice, admitted he had not been successful hunting, "so when he saw the deer hanging from the tree he decided to cut one down and take it."

The hunters called 911 and reported seeing a car leave the area with a small buck tied to the top. Deputies caught up with the car, and the deer was returned to the hunter.

The DNR values the deer at about $500. The Star Tribune reports charges are pending.
