Drone Video: Bull Moose Sheds Both Antlers at the Same Time

Drones can provide never-before-seen views of wildlife in their natural habitat, and in this video, you’ll see a rare occurrence when a bull moose sheds both antlers simultaneously.

Drone Video: Bull Moose Sheds Both Antlers at the Same Time

Derek Burgoyne of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, was flying his drone on Jan. 12, 2023, in a forested region of the province near Juniper and spotted three bedded moose. All three were bulls, but only one had yet to shed his antlers.

Derek says that the three bulls soon jumped to their feet, and as Derek recorded with his drone, the antlered bull ran a short distance, stopped, then shook himself, sending both antlers flying.

As Derek explains in the YouTube video below, it’s common for a bull moose to shed one antler and then carry the second one for a week or more. Shedding both antlers at the same time is rare. Derek has found a couple hundred sheds through the years, and he estimates this bull’s age at 3 or 4 years.
