Captain Hans Mann of Buffalo Harbor Outfitters (above left) and Josh Ketry have been fishing Lake Erie’s Buffalo Harbor for muskies for more than 20 years. On this morning of Oct. 22, 2022, they invited good friend Dan King (above right) to join them. As you’ll see in the YouTube video below, King fights and eventually lands a muskie larger than any they’ve ever seen.
The anglers measured the fish’s length at just short of 55 inches. Of course, this is tremendously impressive, but what’s really breathtaking is the muskie’s girth. According to Capt. Han’s Facebook comments, they didn’t take the time to measure the girth or weigh the fish due to big waves on Buffalo Harbor, which were quickly blowing their boat into a dangerous area (rocks, etc.). They wanted to release the fish as soon as possible to ensure its health as well as their own. According to Capt. Hans, this could be the biggest musky ever caught in Lake Erie.
P.S. In addition to being a skilled angler, Capt. Hans, known as “Hans the Carver” is also an accomplished wood carver. Click here to learn about his 360-degree sculpted fish reproductions.
