Alabama Black Belt Adventures

Location:

Butler, Alabama. The lodge is about 35 minutes from the regional airport in Meridian, Mississippi or 2½ hours from airports in Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile.

Accommodations:

Pushmataha has outstanding accommodations. The main lodge is 12,000 square feet with a spacious 2,700-square-foot great room with flat-screen T.V.s and dinning tables overlooking a fully stocked private lake. The main lodge has 15 hotel-style private rooms each with two beds and a private bathroom and shower. Chances are you’ll put on weight during a hunt with three large meals served daily. The Southern-style food will become a favorite aspect of your trip.

Hunt Information: Most hog hunting is done from treestands and shooting houses. Outside of deer and turkey season many of the choice stands are baited to help ensure hunter success. There is no shortage of wild hogs at Pushmataha and no limit. We had shot opportunities on every sit. Stands are setup for rifle or bowhunting and there is a cleaning station and walk-in cooler at camp to field dress and cool the meat for processing. I processed seven hogs from our trip and the cleaning station and walk-in cooler were topnotch facilities for the job.

License Required: To hunt feral hogs on private land you’ll need a small game license. A resident license is $16.70 for the year. Non-Resident license is $41.75 for a three day up to $94 for an annual.

Skill Level: The same skills required hunting deer from a treestand or shooting house are needed for this hunt. Hunts are typically morning and evening.
