A rutting buck can be anywhere. An area where multiple trails join is a great any-wind spot. Yes, you’re rolling the dice and giving up your location in one direction, but with multiple trails intersecting and the rut running wide open, your chances are good a buck will come down one of the other trails.

Rainy-Day Favorite

Wildlife biologist and accomplished whitetail hunter Jeremy Flinn hunts his favorite rut stand in the rain regardless of wind direction. “Not only does rain wash away any scent I leave behind while walking in, but as the rain hits the ground, it stirs up natural fragrances that cover human scent,” notes Flinn. “And a light rain, in my opinion, keeps traveling bucks cool and on their feet longer.”
