Destination Spotlight: Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club

Foxhall Resort and Sporting Clay is just minutes from one of the world’s busiest airports, but once on site you’ll surely feel half a world away – whether you come for the day or an extended stay. Harrison Merrill Jr., took a few moments with Black’s Wing & Clay Waterfowl to share some of the highlights of this unique sporting resort.

"We like to think of ourselves as a one-stop shop for a shooting/hunting experience of a lifetime."

BWCW: How did Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club get its start?

Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club: Foxhall started as a vision to provide a place the whole family could enjoy and offer all the outdoor activities in one location 30 minutes from Atlanta, GA.

BWCW: Describe the various amenities/activities that make up your operation.

FR&SP: Foxhall offers a vast array of activities that caters to both the outdoor enthusiast and the family. The Foxhall Shooting Grounds offers one of the top sporting clays courses in the country along with two 5-stands and a wobble trap. Other amenities and activities offered include archery, equestrian, tennis, fly fishing, bass fishing, kayaking and canoeing, mountain biking, ATV trail rides, wildlife viewing, swimming complex, and much more. There is also a member hunt club where members of the club have access to over 1,500 acres for deer, turkey and quail hunting.

BWCW:What is appealing about your location (e.g., terrain, geography, relationship to other outdoor activities)?

FR&SP: Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club is the first Urban Sporting Club in the Country offering over 30 activities/amenities and located only 20 minutes from the world's busiest airport. Foxhall has one of the most beautiful settings you will ever see where people feel like they are hundreds of miles from a city.

BWCW: How many employees do you have, and what roles do they play in your business?

FR&SP: We have over 20 employees on staff. Customer service is our number one priority and our staff does a great job of taking care of every customer. We like to think of ourselves as a one-stop shop for a shooting/hunting experience of a lifetime.

BWCW: When and how did you personally get involved in hunting/shooting and this business in particular?

FR&SP: I started hunting and fishing as a young boy and it has been an important part of my life ever since. When I had the chance to work at a place where I could be in the outdoors around people hunting/shooting every day, it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

BWCW: What are some specific keys to the success of Foxhall Resort – for example, customer approaches, services offered, etc.?

FR&SP: Foxhall prides itself on our first-class service. Not only do we provide excellent customer service but we also offer some of the finest sporting facilities of any club in the country. Beretta chose Foxhall as one of their 13 outdoor experiences worldwide and their first Sporting Resort.

BWCW: How do you work at growing your customer base?

FR&SP: We do a lot of advertising in the outdoor community, but the most important way to grow our customer base is through referrals. If the customer had a great experience they are going to recommend us to friends and family.

BWCW: Any hard lessons/bumps along the road that have made the business a better hunting/shooting facility?

FR&SP: There are always bumps in the road along the way but the key is to stay flexible because the hunting/shooting market is always changing and we always want to offer the best experience possible.

BWCW: Describe one or two highlights/memorable events during the history of Foxhall Resort.

FR&SP: One of our most memorable events was holding the first EPIC Gamefair hosted by Safari Club International. The event was setup for over 30,000 people using a large majority of our 1,100 acres. They brought in mobile stores for Berretta, Matthews, and several other top companies in the outdoor industry. They had outfitters from all over the world and shooting instructors from all over the country.
