Apex predators become prey when they interfere with a backcountry elk hunt.

Video: Wolves Attack Elk — Hunter Evens the Score

A limited draw backcountry hunt in Idaho took a sharp detour when a pack of eight gray wolves ran off a herd of elk, including a large bull, Kevin Wilkerson from KUIU high-performance hunting gear & apparel, Ken Byers and his son, Casey Byers, and the video crew from Hooked Hunting had been stalking. And while Wilkerson had drawn one of only two non-resident elk tags available for the unit, luckily, Casey had a pair of wolf tags in his hip pocket. It was early October, and the team had hiked 7 miles deep into the rugged Idaho backcountry where they had been unsuccessfully scouring the landscape for any signs of elk. They finally spotted a bull elk with a small haram of cows and were working to get into position for a shot. What happened next was nothing short of amazing. Check out this rare video of a close encounter of the wolf kind.
