— Pheasant hunters in South Dakota should have a better hunting season this year thanks to an estimated 42 percent jump in the number of birds.
The increase is due to an improved pheasant production year last spring and a mild winter. The higher numbers will lead to a nice breeding population.
The Department of Environmental Conservation says it's about to release 30,000 adult pheasants on lands open to public hunting.
The spring pheasant crowing count survey showed a 6 percent rise statewide from last year.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says there are still some openings available for special pheasant hunts at Springer and Glendo.
