Alaska Bear Crashes Baby's Birthday Bash

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Wildlife officials in Alaska's capital suspect a black bear might have literally crashed a child's birthday party before he was shot and killed inside a different home.

The Juneau Empire reports a bear fell through a skylight at Alicia Bishop and Glenn Merrill's home as they were preparing for their son's first birthday party.

Merrill says he and the bear just stared at each other in disbelief before he told his parents to take the boy, Jackson, to another room.

The couple also took refuge and watched as the dazed bear recovered enough to sample some cupcakes intended for the birthday party. They were then able to shoo it off.

Authorities suspect it is the same bear that officers killed 30 minutes later when it entered another home.
