Tyler Jordan of Realtree shared a morning in the Georgia turkey woods with President Jimmy Carter. In an social media post, Jordan wrote, “94 years old and still bustin’ beaks! An unforgettable morning in the woods with President Carter at Realtree Farms."

President Carter, who is known for his love of hunting and fishing, has also written about his outdoor pursuits throughout his life. In 2016, the former U.S. President was inducted into the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Hall of Fame.   

According to Georgia Outdoor News, Carter has written 29 books that cover a variety of topics including some about the outdoors. His outdoor books Sharing Good Times and Outdoor Journal discuss his love of hunting and fishing and what a positive impact it had on his life.

“Outdoor topics are also sprinkled throughout many of his books,” says John Trussell of Georgia Outdoor News. “For example, in ‘An Hour Before Daylight,’ his best-selling book on growing up on a south Georgia farm, he says, ‘Throughout my young life, I was obsessed with hunting and fishing, and I was not alone. It was what my father, most of the men in town, families on the farm, and all of us boys wanted most when we were not working. We read, thought, talked, recalled past experiences and made future plans, all about hunting and fishing. I had a fishing pole in my hands as early as I can remember, and I would go hunting and fishing with daddy long before I could have anything to shoot other than a bb gun.’” 

Even throughout his presidency, it was not uncommon for the White House Press to report on Carter’s hunting and fishing outings. For example, in a New York Times article, “Home for Holidays, Carter Goes Hunting,” which was published on December 23, 1977, there's a mention of the president’s quail hunt prior to Christmas Day.

“President Carter, home for the holidays, visited with friends and relatives in this little south Georgia village today, answered a few questions from reporters, bought a hunting license and took off into the countryside to do some quail shooting,” wrote Charles Mohr of the Times.

Born in Plains, Georgia, President Carter held the office of the U.S. Presidency from January 1977 to January 1981.
