BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Those who love to fish or newcomers to the sport can do so for free the first weekend in June.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says residents of all ages can fish June 7-8 without a license on any of the state's public waters.

In conjunction with the annual free fishing weekend, the department is among sponsors for the Family Fish Fest at the Myrtle Grove Marina in Port Sulphur and the Lake D'Arbonne State Park Fishing Derby in Farmerville on Saturday, June 7

Both events include competitive events for youth.
