Apple Is Replacing The Pistol Emoji

The debate of gun control has extended to cellphones and emojis — or at least for Apple.

The iPhone manufacturer has announced that when iOS 10 is released this fall, the updated operating system will include the replacement of the pistol emoji with a water gun emoji, AOL reports.

AOL reports the pistol emoji has caused legal trouble in the past when teens have used it on social media in threatening ways. Apple’s decision to replace the emoji reportedly started when an organization called New Yorkers Against Gun Violence launched the #DisarmTheiPhone campaign to remove the emoji and “take a stand for stricter gun accessibility in America,” AOL reports.

Apple released a statement about the changes coming with iOS 10, but the decision to replace the pistol emoji was not addressed.
