GEMTECH Tracker Suppressor Review

GEMTECH’s Tracker suppressor is built with the hunter in mind. We try it out on Ruger’s American Predator rifle.

GEMTECH Tracker Suppressor Review

Since its inception in 2011, the American Suppressor Association (ASA) has done tremendous work in making suppressors more mainstream. Eighteen states in less than six years have legalized suppressor use for hunting, which is great news for sportsmen. With more and more hunters catching on to the benefits of hunting suppressed, manufactures have taken notice.

GEMTECH is well-known in the suppressor industry and its Tracker suppressor is designed with the hunter in mind. The .30 suppressor is lightweight and not overly long. No hunter wants additional weight when trekking far into the backcountry or when hiking into the woods loaded down with a treestand and hunting gear. So GEMTECH shaved weight by constructing the can with titanium and aluminum. The Tracker weighs in at a mere 11.3 ounces. And at only 7.9 inches in length you don’t have to worry about maneuvering through thick cover.

The Tracker is a .30-caliber suppressor rated for the .223 Rem. all the way up to a .300 Win. Mag. Shooters can expect to get about 27 dB of sound reduction from the Tracker. I was also pleased with how well the Tracker smoothed out the recoil of the Ruger American Predator rifle. The bolt-action rifle chambered in .308 Win. had a sharp pop to the shoulder (like any .308) when fired but, after adding the Tracker, the recoil was elongated and drawn out into a smooth push. The lightweight can was hardly noticeable on the end of the barrel.

Perhaps GEMTECH’s best addition to the Tracker is designing and building it to sell for around $500. There are plenty of suppressors on the market for a .30-caliber rifle that cost close to $1,000 or more. At this price point. it’s hard to beat the value you’re getting for a quality suppressor built by such a trusted brand.

Silencer Shop is currently selling the GEMTECH Tracker for $470.
