Bruce and Matthew Rogers hold their first-place trophies from the 2022 Crappie Masters National Qualifier on Grenada Lake.

A year ago I wrote about the huge crappies caught during the 2021 Crappie Masters national qualifier tournament on Grenada Lake; click here to check it out. Even though the anglers faced tougher weather this year, including a brutal cold front that rolled in after day one of the two-day event, the catches were still remarkable.

The team of Bruce and Matthew Rogers (above) took home the first-place trophies, as well as a $10,000 check with a massive 2-day weight of 44.71 pounds (14 crappies total; seven per day). I’ll do the math for you: Their average crappie weighed 3.19 pounds!

Each of the top seven teams weighed in more than 40 pounds of crappies during the two days of fishing (again, 14 fish total); 170 teams entered the event, and the average crappie weighed was 2.4 pounds.

In total, there were four 4-pound crappies weighed in during the tournament. The CarZone USA Big Fish $5,000 check went to the team of Robert and Brett Luther, who had a monster 4.26-pound crappie on the first day. The Luthers took second place overall with 14-fish for 42 pounds (3-pound average) and won $7,000.

The team of Robert and Brett Luther finished in second place, but took the big fish honor with a giant weighing 4.26 pounds (second fish from the right).

The Facebook video below recaps day one of the event and previews day two. At the end of the video, you’ll see the team of Robert and Brett Luther as they hold up their four biggest crappies (of seven fish) during the day one weigh in, and see their reaction when their biggest one weighs 4.26.
