ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The state Department of Environmental Conservation is looking to sign up school districts for an archery program.
Commissioner Joe Martens says the National Archery in the Schools Program is growing rapidly in New York. He says archery allows students of all ages and athletic abilities to compete at the same level for top honors.
The seventh annual New York state archery tournament was held on March 7, with 332 students from 15 school districts participating.
The program is designed to increase participation in outdoor-type activities among students of all athletic abilities. DEC says it's also a good way to get young people interested in hunting.
