Bill Krenz Doug Walker

Krenz, the editor and co-founder of Inside Archery and Bowhunt America magazines, died suddenly of a heart attack on Dec. 13, a day after his 58th birthday.

Walker, longtime editor/publisher of the California-based National Bowhunter, died Jan. 29, of reported complications following a bout with pneumonia. He was 80.

Walker, a member of the National Bowhunters Hall of Fame, was one of the sport’s true pioneers, during an adventure-filled career that included a stint working for Fred Bear at Bear Archery Company, and penning his entertaining, well-illustrated book, Autobiography of a Bowhunter. Walker, whose nickname was “The Western Bowhunter,” played an integral part in the formation of the Pope and Young Club, and was the first person in California to take all 11 of the state’s big-game species with bow and arrow.

Krenz, another hardcore bowhunter, began his career in the archery industry as a freelance writer for various archery magazines and later worked in marketing for some of the leading archery equipment manufacturers, including PSE, Hoyt, and Bear Archery.
