It’s the World Series for all things turkey. Yep, the NWTF Convention and Sports Show – aside from being in the woods chasing a big gobbler – is where every turkey nut wants to be. This year, the show’s 39th, brought more than 48,600 hunters to the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, from February 12-15.
Throughout the course of the show competitors from around the country took to the stage in search of turkey-talking gold. Fans watched while judges scored competitors in a number of different calling competitions: Gobbling, Owl Hooting, Friction, Team Challenge and the illustrious Senior Division Championship, to name a few.
But the adults weren’t the only ones looking to bring home some hardware. A big part of the show every year is the Youth Grand National Turkey Calling Championships sponsored by Mossy Oak (www.mossyoak.com). Throngs of young turkey callers took to the stage in three divisions (Poult, Junior and Intermediate) with dreams of being crowned a world champion.
That dream came true for Knight & Hale Pro Staffer Clay Prudhomme, son of world-class turkey calling legend Mark Prudhomme. Pudhomme, 15, won the Junior Division title using a Knight & Hale Scarlet Fever glass pot call and the manufacturer’s famed Bloodwood Cutter box call.
“Last year I finished second in the Junior Division, and this year I had a goal to win the championship,” said the 10th grader from Georgetown, South Carolina. “I’m proud to associate with Knight & Hale. Harold Knight and David Hale are two of my idols.”
Founded in 1972 by Harold Knight and David Hale, the company is known for producing high-end game calls.
