Arizona Teacher Wins World Archery Championship With 1 Arm

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- With only one arm, an Arizona math teacher has snagged a gold medal in archery and is looking forward to his next competition.

KPHO-TV reports that Eric Bennett of Surprise recently returned from Germany, where he won the Para World Championships. His next stop is Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Paralympic Games.

When Bennett was 15 years old, his vehicle was hit by a drunk driver and his right arm was crushed as it rolled

Bennett uses an improvised tab controlled by his teeth to release his arrows. He says the prospect at first seemed dangerous, but he decided to continue pursuing archery anyway.

He holds himself to high standards, intent on hitting the yellow bulls-eye with every shot.
