A 62-year-old Alaska man out for a walk in the woods was mauled by a brown bear.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 62-year-old Alaska man out for a walk in the woods was mauled by a brown bear.

Alaska State Troopers say Danny High was not armed with a gun or bear spray when he was attacked Sunday afternoon.

Troopers describe the Funny River man's injuries as major. He was flown from the scene to a hospital.

Troopers were unable to find the bear in the area.

Funny River is 15 miles east of Soldotna on the Kenai Peninsula.
