NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Opponents of a plan to kill Canada geese in a North Little Rock park have turned to social media.
The City Council agreed Monday to allow the killing of geese in Burns Park from Dec. 20-22 to reduce the population. Officials say the estimated 200 geese create health and safety problems.
Opponents created a Coalition to Save the Geese of Burns Park page on Facebook (http://on.fb.me/tXNopD) that had 452 likes Thursday morning. There is also a Twitter account and an online petition opposing the plan.
Scott White of North Little Rock began the Twitter account and petition and told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/tYAnuC) that he wants the city to find an alternative way to remove the geese.
Park rangers say about 30 people have applied for the hunt.
