LANSING, Mich. (AP) — State auditors have found holes in the computer system that's used to sell hunting and fishing licenses in Michigan.
An audit released Thursday says more than 2,200 licenses were sold to 800 people who weren't eligible. They owed child support or had their right to fish or hunt revoked.
The Department of Natural Resources admits the computer system was not programmed to reject a sale to people who were ineligible. Auditors looked at data from 2009 through May 2011.
The audit also found hunters who purchased more than one license during seasons that have a one-license restriction.
In another finding, auditors discovered the computer system lacked controls to verify ages. More than 14,000 discounted senior licenses may have been improperly sold, resulting in a revenue loss of $164,000.
