Tazewell County is seeing an increase in claims submitted for the county's $50 coyote bounty.
TAZEWELL, Va. (AP) — Tazewell County is seeing an increase in claims submitted for the county's $50 coyote bounty.
Board of Supervisors Chairman David Anderson says claims totaling a record $5,550 were submitted in March for 111 coyotes killed.
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports that coyote claim payments have increased from $2,500 in the bounty's first year in 2000 to $20,350 so far this year.
Northwestern District Supervisor Seth White says the jump in claims may be due to the economy. He says times are tough and people need money.
