If you're a hunter in Nevada looking to bag your first one, you'll have to enter your application online with Wildlife Administrative Services by May 13.
The first legal black bear hunting season in Nevada history runs Aug. 20-Dec. 31 or until the harvest objective is met.
State wildlife officials will issue 45 tags but are limiting the number of bears that can be taken to a total of 20, only six of which can be females.
Despite vocal opposition from conservationists, wildlife commissioners approved the hunt after biologists assured them the state's bear population can support a limited hunt. They estimate there are an estimated 200 to 300 adult black bears in the Carson Range around Lake Tahoe, with additional bears in ranges to the south.
