Thunder Beast Arms ULTRA 9 CB Suppressor Review

Not that this suppressor shouldn’t be the first one you own (It was actually the first one I bought), but this isn’t your 101-level suppressor for a bullet-flinging enthusiast. This is suppressor engineering at its finest.

The guys at Thunder Beast Arms build quality suppressor to enhance long-range shooting accuracy. These guys are long-range shooting competitors and their relentless search for something better than what was available for a precision shooter lead to the creation of Thunder Beast Arms (TBAC).

One of the first things you’ll notice that sets this suppressor apart from others is its light weight. This 9-inch-long suppressor only weighs 11.9 ounces. I’ve shot shorter suppressors that weighed double that! Compared to the prior 30P-1/30CB9 series, the ULTRA series is 25-30 percent lighter, 4-5 dB quieter and much stronger. However, the ULTRA series holds the same precision and repeatability as the 30P-1/30CB series.

The .30 caliber ULTRA series includes three suppressors: 9-inch, 7-inch and 5-inch versions are available. They are available in either the Compact Brake (CB) Mount (a "thread-over muzzle brake" type mount) or in a direct thread mount. The ULTRA series is constructed of titanium with a fully-welded core. This material and construction provide a great strength to weight ratio. It can take whatever your precision rifle can dish out.

The ULTRA baffle stack was completely redesigned, but retains the principles that made the 30P-1 stack such a great precision and long-range suppressor. Thunder Beast Arms Corp suppressors have racked up impressive results at long-range field shooting events nationwide.

The .30 cal ULTRA was designed around .308 for maximum flexibility and is rated up to .300 Winchester Magnum (18" barrel), but it's the ideal suppressor for the most competitive mid-sized cartridges for long-range shooting such as .243 Winchester .260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5-284 Norma, and 7mm Remington Magnum & WSM.

The ULTRA 9 will suppress a typical .308 bolt-action rifle down to approximately 132-134 dB. The ULTRA 9 will suppress a typical .300 Blackout bolt-action rifle to about 118-120 dB shooting subsonic ammunition. It also has very little or no "first round pop" (FRP) in most applications. When shot on a .260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor, the 6.5 mm Ultra is 2-3 dB quieter than the .30 caliber Ultra on the same rifle.
