He may not be the actual "Duck Commander" (that title belongs to his father Phil), but for a few minutes Willie Robertson from the wildly popular "Duck Dynasty" television show was the commander of a U.S. Navy warship — if not while it was just sitting in port.
Brothers Jep and Willie Robertson joined several A-listers on Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey's annual overseas Christmas visit with troops this month sponsored by the USO. During their trip, the world famous hunters visited with U.S. Navy sailors at Souda Bay in Greece, and jetted over to Afghanistan to visit with U.S. and international troops at Bagram Air Base, near Kabul, and Camp Leatherneck near Kandahar.
"We owe our servicemen and women and their families so much more than just a holiday or two; we owe them our thanks each and every day we are alive," Robertson said in a USO release announcing the trip. "I am honored to have been invited to join the Chairman on his annual USO holiday tour and look forward to the trip."
The "Duck Dynasty" stars were joined by Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche, Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Bridget Kelly, former New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light, actor and comedian Thomas "Nephew Tommy" Miles and former correspondent for NBC's "The Voice" Alison Haislip.
