CROSS, S.C. (AP) — Striped bass are making a comeback on Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie in South Carolina.

Allan Weiss of Black's Fish Camp in Cross told The Charleston Post and Courier that he expects a great fall when the striper season opens Oct. 1 on the Lowcountry lakes.

Striped bass have struggled in the lakes this decade because of overfishing, determined predators and drought. But the Department of Natural Resources has aggressively stocked the lakes in recent years and put strict regulations on the catch.

But it is not all good news for South Carolina's bass fisherman. DNR says the warm summer weather has cut oxygen levels and caused hundreds of striped bass to die in Lake Murray near Columbia.
