SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The Game and Fish Department is reminding hunters that applications are available to apply for licenses to hunt certain birds, including sandhill cranes.
The agency said the deadline to apply for a sandhill crane hunting permit is Sept. 8. That's also the deadline for applications for youth waterfowl hunts at the Bernardo Wildlife Area, which is south of Belen. A drawing will be held to determine who receives a permit.
There's a Nov. 3 deadline to apply for special pheasant hunts at the Seven Rivers, Casa Colorada, and the W.S. Huey Wildlife Management Area. That same November deadline applies for light goose permits at Bernardo.
More information on fall hunting is available at the department's web site: www.wildlife.state.nm.us.
