NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A planned goose hunt at North Little Rock's Burns Park is being delayed.

The City Council voted Monday night to delay the controlled kill of about 135 of the estimated 200 Canada geese in the park after receiving public opposition.

Mayor Patrick Henry Hays told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/tZ0R1U) that everyone involved is sensitive to public input and said he's now asking for proposed alternatives to reducing the goose population.

The hunt had been scheduled for Dec. 20-22 after the city's Park Commission suggested the kill as a way to improve health conditions and safety at the park.

Hays said the hunt will not take place this year — but would be rescheduled before the Jan. 29 end of goose season if an alternative removal method is not found.
