PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Parkersburg officials say they would like to establish an urban deer hunt for the city by this fall.

On Tuesday, a City Council committee unanimously approved a draft of a deer hunting ordinance. It recommended that the full council take up the measure.

A number of other West Virginia cities, including Bridgeport and Charleston, allow deer hunting as a way to check populations.

There is no timeline on when council will consider the matter, but committee members said they would like the city to hold a hunt this year.
