BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky officials say archers posted all-time harvest records for the 2010-11 white-tailed deer season that ended earlier this month.
Wildlife biologist David Yancy, who works in the deer program for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, said archery hunters harvested 413 antlerless deer and 253 antlered bucks over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
Hunters reported taking 110,356 deer, about 54 percent male, during the season.
Modern firearms hunters took 79,020 deer, while archers harvested 16,636. Muzzleloader hunters checked in 13,179 deer and crossbow hunters 1,521 deer.
vYancy told The Bowling Green Daily News that the results confirm there are plenty of deer in the wild.
