SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — Half a dozen mountain lions were killed over the weekend during the first two days of the mountain lion hunting season in South Dakota's Black Hills.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports that two females and four males had been killed by Sunday evening. They were shot in Custer, Pennington and Lawrence counties.
No lions have been killed yet in Custer State Park, where cougar hunting has been opened for the first time. The quota in the park is five lions. The season will end in the Black Hills when 45 lions or 30 females are killed. If the quota isn't reached the season ends at the end of March.
