Wandering Bear Shot By Police Still At Large

SAVAGE, Minn. (AP) — Police say a bear shot and wounded after it wandered into a busy campground in Savage has not been found.

The injured bear was last seen Monday crossing Highway 13 about a mile from the Town and Country Campground. Savage Police Chief Rodney Seurer says the campground was at capacity during the Memorial Day weekend.

The 200-pound bear was spotted twice on Friday by campers and was shot by officers that night. Department of Natural Resources enforcement captain Greg Salo says tranquilizing and relocating the bear wasn't an option because it would likely return to eat out of garbage cans and bird feeders.

Seurer tells the Star Tribune his officers will be in the area of the campground Wednesday to keep an eye out for the injured bear.
