Remains Of Missing Wyoming Hunter Found After 6-Day Search

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Officials in Teton County say an 85-year-old man who failed to return from a solo hunting trip has been found deceased.

Sheriff Jim Whalen says searchers found the remains of Bernhard Rietmann shortly before noon on Tuesday in the Granite Creek area of the Gros Ventre Wilderness.

Another hunter called authorities Tuesday morning to report he'd found a rifle in the Boulder Creek area, which is one drainage away from where searchers found Rietmann's car. The hunter provided searchers with GPS coordinates of where he found the rifle.

Searchers responded to that area Tuesday and soon located Rietmann's remains. Officials have not released a cause of death.

The search for Rietmann, of Wilson, began on Sept. 24, a day after he failed to return from what was supposed to be a one-day hunt.
