New bear-conflict business planned at Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (AP) — A new group could soon be in the business of reducing conflicts between people and bears at Lake Tahoe.

Ron Stiller plans to launch his private operation called Bear Smart Tahoe in March in hopes of bringing a little sanity to an issue that has increasingly divided residents of his community.

He tells the Reno-Gazette Journal he's going to attack it like a business.

The business consultant who moved to Tahoe from Pennsylvania a year ago says his limited liability corporation will be loosely based on a program in Whistler, British Columbia the Get Bear Smart Society.

He hopes to provide consulting services to area businesses, public education in schools and arrange for locally-based first-responders to deal with bear problems more often than state game wardens.
