JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Grizzly bear trapping at Grand Teton National Park will continue through July 12 and officials are asking visitors to stay alert.

The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team has been trapping bears since May 6 as part of a conservation effort to keep tabs on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem's grizzly population.

A park news release says the traps are being placed away from trails and campsites and are marked with warning signs to keep people out.

The interagency effort has been studying grizzlies since 1973 and is made up of federal agencies, tribal fish and game departments as well as the states of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
