What I like to think of as the “Mathews Diet” began with the Drenalin in 2007. Under the banner “Thin Is In,” the Drenalin was launched with narrower SE3 SlimLimbs, an ultra-simplified limb attachment system (no pockets), a 33-inch axle-to-axle length, and sufficient sculpturing on the handle to weigh in at a shade over 3 3/4 pounds. The Drenalin was a fine testimonial for the “Mathews Diet.” The popularity of this lightweight bow prompted the folks at Mathews to try it again—the result is the DXT. With a nominal axle-to-axle length of 29 3/4 inches, the DXT is one of the shortest compounds of conventional design around.
The handle of the DXT is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy. It has an overall length of 22 inches and bears a striking resemblance to its longer brother, the Drenalin. Inaddition to being about three inches shorter in length, there are several noticeable differences in the details of design. The brass bushing for the stabilizer does not extend through the lower riser. The bushing on the face of the riser has been eliminated. The sight windowis 5 3/4 inches long instead of 7 inches. The hole in the lower riser for mounting a bowquiver has been eliminated while the one in the upper riser remains. This is in keeping with the design of the new Mathews ArrowWeb T-Series bow quivers, which mount in a single hole in the upper riser.
Following the design of the Drenalin, the DXT handle is constructed entirely on centerline except for the sight window offset. This is accomplished by increasing the structural offset at the point where the sight window joins the outer portion of the upper riser. This allows the limbs to be mounted centered on the riser without any eccentric upper limb pocket and, thus, accommodate the new limb mounting system.
The usual provisions for sight mounting, roller-guard bracket attachment, and harmonic dampener units positioning follow the pattern set by the Drenalin. Even the limb mounting angles are unchanged and the roller guard assemblies are interchangeable. *Read the rest of the report by downloading the PDF
