27 deer killed during Blennerhassett special hunt

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Hunters killed more than two dozen deer during a special hunt on Blennerhassett Island.

Media outlets report that 52 hunters participated in Tuesday's hunt and killed 27 deer. The Division of Natural Resources holds the hunt to control the Ohio River island's deer population and increase the herd's health.

Another hunt is scheduled Thursday.

Hunters have to obtain a special permit from the DNR to participate. Permits are awarded through a random drawing.

Blennerhassett Island assistant park superintendent Miles Evenson says hunters whom he talked to enjoyed being on the island, even if they didn't kill a deer.
