8-Foot Deer Fences Proposed For Eugene Homes

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Eugene Planning Commission is considering allowing homes to have fences up to 8 feet high.

Why?

To keep out deer.

The Register-Guard reports City Councilor Betty Taylor proposed higher fences for residents complaining about deer raiding their flower and vegetable gardens.

Currently the height limit is 3.5 feet for front yards and 6 feet for side and back yards. The increased height would have to be wire fencing to preserve views.

The commission is holding a hearing on deer fences and the measure may go to the City Council on June 16.
