Wisconsin DNR To Start Deer Management Program

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials say they'll start enrolling landowners in their new local deer management assistance program later this month.

The program offers three levels of participation. Any landowner can get free habitat and herd management information and invitations to regional deer management meetings and workshops. Landowners with at least 160 acres can get cheaper antlers tags, on-site visits from Department of Natural Resources staff and a property management plan for three years for $75. Property owners with at least 640 acres can get all those benefits as well help with population monitoring, habitat evaluations and additional site visits for three years for $150.

Landowners can start enrolling through the agency's website on April 29. People interested in the second and third participation levels must apply by May 30.
